Snow comparison Siilinjärvi 7.1.2014

Hello!

Today 7.1.2013 was cloudy day with drizzle and 0C- +1C in Siilinjärvi.
And I noticed as many times before that small difference in altitude affects how snowy or snowless trees are on given moment. Normally troposphere gets cooler upwards if not situation of thermal inversion or warm weather front above? I have read that the troposphere cools down 0,6C/100m upwards and 6C/1km upwards. As small difference as 50 meters in altitude can make the difference does the snow stay or melt in trees or other objects. It can also affect that is it the rain coming in water or sleet or sleet or wet snow.

That viewpoint (Patakukkula) is about 67m higher than Lake Kallavesi and in winter you can sometimes find difference how snowy things are in both places. Even 0,3C degrees difference in air temperature can make the difference how snowy the things are. And many times the difference is more obvious and more beautiful than today. And I think that the shadows dont play major role of todays snow amount of trees. That is because the sun is shines so low at noon and it was also cloudy day.
