Very early snowless landscape 13.3.2014 Siilinjärvi

Hello!

Today I did a bike trip of 25,6km.  I took few photos and two YouTube- videos today. The weather was warm, +8C. It was more sunny earlier today 13.3. About 90% of landscape was snowless, which is very unusual at this time of the year at here. I have never seen this kind of situation. Usually layer of snow is biggest at halfway of March and is often 50cm or more at Eastern Finland. I would say that the spring is about 6 weeks ahead compared to average spring if we look the snow situation in the nature. The next week is predicted to be colder and more wintry.
My skiing season was really short because of warm winter and little (20cm) layer of snow. It was one week at December and three weeks at February. Normally 13.3 there are still good skiing conditions and skiing season last up to four months per winter.
Last two years I have able to ski until at the end of first week of April.

19.2.2014 skiing trip

Hello!

Today I did my longest skiing trip of this winter. It was 18km. My skis slide well and snow was more slippery than few earlier times. The snow layer in the nature is very thin, only about 20 cm. Normally it is many times thicker at this time of the year. There was only a little amount of skiers at noon and after that.

Hello!

Today I did a skiin trip of 10 km. Temperature was about +0C. Earlier today it snowed 5cm layer of snow. The snow was very sticky. It constantly tried to grab bottom of my skis, if not sliding skis constantly. But thus I got more exercise.

Restarting my skiing season 2.2.2014

2.2.2014 I did my third skiing trip at this winter. It was seven weeks break when there was not enought snow for skiing. Last skiing trip before this was 10.12.2013. At first it was so warm weather that it melted snow. Then came freeze, even -24C but still not snowing few weeks of freeze. At lately it had snowed slightly. The snowlayer at Siilinjärvi is only about 10cm at now.
2.2.2014 I was lucky. I did not got new scratches on bottom of my skis.
The skiing season will be very short at this winter, maybe a maximum of two months. Usually it is twise as long. It can be shorter if early spring.

Hello!

Today I did a walking trip of 11km. At Siilinjärvi here is not yet enough snow for skiing. And it is very unusual situation at here. There is only about 5cm layer of snow. This week has been cold. Coldest reading on my thermometer was -24C. And my thermometer is on a hill, not cold place.

Hello!

At today I did a walking trip of 5,6km. It was sunny day and the wind was calm.
Temperature was around -15C. Air pressure 1037 hPa (sea level). Relative humidity around 90%.
Today was unusually good visibility. I noticed that because I filmed/took photos a lot today with my super zoom camera  Canon PowerShot SX50 HS. It is commonly good visibility in those sunny winter days like today, but rarely as good visibility. If we think sunny days of autumn, spring or summer it is never as good visibility as sunny winter days. That is because amount of absolute humidity is lowest at winter and higher on other seasons, expesially summer when it is warmest.

The are not yet snow for skiing. Layer of snow is only about 3cm. It does not provide shelter for animals against freeze. I have never seen as little layer of snow at this time of the winter. There is not warm anymore, but does not snow either. Weird winter!
